I make interactive live theater that aims to inspire and create social impact.

I am named after my grandfather, Johnny, who was a carpenter. I never met him or lived in the house he built, but he lives through me. His material was wood; mine are words. My practice draws from multiple disciplines: Black church traditions, oral history, pedagogy of the oppressed, and the psycho-physical approach of the Michael Chekhov Technique.

I craft gestures, characterization, music, choreography, audience interaction, and a little sleight of hand. Through readings, workshops, and rehearsals, I refine material ahead of public production. But my work continues with each performance as audience reactions inform me of how the language resonates. Together, we co-create connection. 

I rarely feel at home. For a long time, there lingered a feeling of internal and external unsettlement and displacement. So I’m committed to creating my own place, and language is my entryway. My art is for the bastards and the deviants, for anyone who has ever felt othered. My goal? To create space for us to reclaim our multitudes.
